Dan Nelson is a Member of Outside CFO LLC
Dan has over 15 years of business and finance experience, with over 10 working with startups and technology companies.
Dan is a seasoned entrepreneur and founder who prior to his joining OutsideCFO, had started his own Virtual CFO consulting company. He has worked with dozens of startups and small businesses to help tackle each company’s unique financial, economic, and operational needs in fields such as: digital media, online advertising, eCommerce, financial services, and sustainability. Additionally, Dan advises startups and mentors at startup accelerators in New York to help founders better understand their business models.
He started his career at Ernst and Young as an auditor and consultant where he audited VC firms and also worked to build and manage business cases for $100mm+ consulting projects. From there he has worked in companies large and small, in both operational and finance roles, including as business manager for AOL.com’s $250mm/yr website with 12mm daily visitors, and as VP of operations for a $50mm/yr Brooklyn-based eCommerce Company.
Dan has a Master’s in Accounting and Bachelor’s in Economics from the University of Michigan and was a 2015 fellow of the Startup Leadership Program, and likes to consider himself an Excel Jedi.
Dan lives in Brooklyn with his wife and dog and loves any activity that can take him outside, whether it’s golf, gardening, boating, rucking or rooting for the Mets and Michigan.
