Ali is a builder and leader of high-performance finance and operations organizations for growth stage technology companies.  He brings over 20 years of proven, cross-functional, entrepreneurial management experience across large and small company settings. In his various roles, Ali has architected, implemented, and streamlined systems and processes to orchestrate and achieve business scale.

Prior to joining Outside CFO, Ali spent the prior 12 years as an operator and financial leader for several high growth, early stage companies in New York, spanning clean technology, digital music, financial technology, and marketing personalization.  Ali is a serial startup CFO and has performed financial modeling, transaction execution, and post-merger integration for multiple company exits. He also has global management experience, driving market expansion into new international geographies, as well as relocation of foreign operations to the US.

Ali began his career as a software and network engineer, designing and developing client-server and line-of-business solutions in the early Internet era.  In 1997, he joined Microsoft, leading developer evangelism and competitive engagement for the company’s enterprise sales and consulting teams on the East coast.  Following a transition into product management, where he launched Microsoft’s SharePoint business and company-wide communication and collaboration go-to-market initiatives, Ali was subsequently invited to lead strategic planning and growth initiatives for Microsoft’s then $10 billion Office business.  He also was responsible for M&A due diligence and post-merger management for acquired companies within Microsoft’s new venture portfolio.

After nearly a decade serving as a cross-functional enterprise software executive and deal professional, Ali joined the Global Technology Investment Banking group at Lehman Brothers, providing M&A and corporate finance advisory for US software, Internet, and business services clients.  Ali then joined Primafuel, a World Economic Forum Technology Pioneer, where he was responsible for fundraising and infrastructure project finance for the next-generation biofuels company.

In 2011, Ali joined SecondMarket as Senior Vice President, facilitating over $2 billion in secondary transaction volume on behalf of the world’s best venture-backed private companies. He subsequently joined Movable Ink as CFO, a pioneer in marketing personalization that Ali steered to record growth and profitability. Ali also served as CFO of Olapic, a visual marketing leader that he helped sell to Monotype in 2016.

Ali earned his BSE in Electrical Engineering from Duke University, where he was a National Science Foundation Undergraduate Fellow.  His MBA is from the Wharton School of Business at the University of Pennsylvania, with a concentration on finance and entrepreneurship.

A proud, long-time resident of Brooklyn, NY, Ali now resides in Maplewood, NJ with his wife and 3 daughters.  He is also a regional board member for Duke New York.
